Wayru expands to Solana

Today, we are pleased to announce an exciting new chapter: Wayru’s expansion to the Solana blockchain.

A collaboration between Wayru and Solana is a significant step in achieving worldwide seamless connectivity.

What is Wayru?

Wayru is a blockchain-based wireless Internet network that provides seamless and effortless WiFi connectivity worldwide. Our solution brings together medium and small Internet service providers (ISPs), entrepreneurs, individuals, and communities to build and operate Internet networks.

A key element of the Wayru network is distributed ownership. We believe that the ownership of Internet infrastructure should be in the hands of as many people as possible.

Our approach is to remove barriers to make it easy and affordable for anyone to participate in the blockchain and DePIN ecosystem. For this reason, people can join the network by becoming a Hotspot Operator by purchasing a Wayru Hotspot directly from us, but anyone anywhere in the world can also turn a third-party device into a Wayru Hotspot and earn rewards using our WayruOS firmware.

With our mobile app, users can participate and earn by sharing known WiFi networks with the community, validating existing networks to improve the network’s health, and inviting friends to join and grow the community. We put DePIN in everyone’s hands just by downloading our mobile app.

Integration with Solana

Wayru and Solana share a common vision of a more decentralized future. This alignment of values is fundamental to us as we constantly seek ways to empower communities to own infrastructure and provide connectivity solutions that do not rely on traditional centralized structures.

As part of the migration, the Wayru network will support all its current services on the Solana Blockchain, including the Decentralized Identity (DID) for users and machines, Verifiable Credentials (VC), Check-Ins, and the minting of Non-Fungible Nodes. Users can expect seamless and secure transactions, further enhancing their digital experiences.

Later this year, we will release our token on the Solana network to reward all our Solana Hotspot operators accordingly.

At Wayru, we are leading the development of connectivity-based protocols. We use Passpoint technology and OpenRoaming protocols in collaboration with OpenWISP and the Wireless Broadband Alliance to improve connectivity and user experience by creating a global WiFi network.

To kick off this new stage, at Wayru, we want to support other projects with our technology by offering them advertising space in our app and captive portal at no cost and future integrations so that dApp users in the ecosystem can browse for free on the Wayru network.
